Filtering is the process of removing specific objects or types
of objects from a document.

Filtering is one step of "webification," the rewriting of a document in Web format.
Filtered elements may be frivolous, simply unnecessary, or damaging to the structural
integrity of the new document.
Filters are included in numerous programs for transforming documents from word
processor or desktop publishing programs to HTML. When moving from Microsoft Word
to HTML, for instance, a border around a block of text or the word processor coding
would be eliminated.
